Tune Ups
One of the best things about Land Cruisers is that they just keep
going and going when an average vehicle would just quit. Even
though they exhibit amazing reliability the only way to keep them
running well is regular maintenance and tune ups are a primary
part of that.
We divide tune up into basic and advanced. Generally, most customers
will go for the advanced tune up for the first visit and the basic
tune up after that. We use only OEM parts or their aftermarket
equivalent. We only use aftermarket parts that have proven to
be a better value than the OEM parts while still providing the
same level of quality as OEM.
All tune ups include a full vehicle fluid check and top off
as required. Also included is a detailed inspection of the engine
compartment looking for items that show wear.
Unlike many shops we do not just toss on some new parts and
send you on your way. We actually tune your cruiser.
We also sandblast, clean and paint almost every part we remove as well as
clean up the engine bay as much as possible. Like we said.... We work on your
truck like it was our own. These are not your normal tune ups!

3FE 1988-1992
In our opinion the 3F and 3FE is the best F series motor that
Toyotaever produced. Unfortunately, it was put into heavy trucks
coupled with automatic transmissions and a pile of emissions crap.
Although most consider it underpowered it is possible to get quite
a bit of performance out of it. Alas, as with most things Cruiser
you gotta pay to play. Our customers are amazed at the improvements
we can make on their 3FEs.

1FZE 1993-1997
Toyota made a logical jump into a great motor in 1993. Overall
there are few complaints about it. General tune up items fix most
rough running situations. We recommend a valve adjustment every
80,000 miles or so but it is not a standard part of our tune ups.
Most 80 Series valves are fine for many miles past the OEM recommended
interval.
There are 2 water by pass hoses on the throttle body assembly.
When doing an superior tune up we strongly recommend replacing
those even if they are in good condition. The removal of the throttle
body for cleaning makes the hose change simple.

Fuel injection cleaning
All fuel injected motors require periodic cleaning of the system.
We use a professional formula from 3M that cleans the entire fuel
system. This is not a "pour in the tank system". We actually run
your Cruiser on these chemicals until the system is cleaned. You
will see an immediate improvement in power and gas mileage. The
cleaning is a 2 part process. We spend a few hours cleaning the
system using pressurized chemicals then reassemble it. We give
you an additional bottle of in tank cleaner to use with a full
tank of new gas.

EMISSIONS
Lets face it; Land Cruiser emissions systems
are a PITA. You open the hood of your FJ 60 and there is about
20+ feet of vacuum line gong every which way with all sorts of
little gizmos and thingys with cool little filters attached. Daunting
to say the least! The FJ 62/FJ 80 is better but still poses a
few strange issues while the FZJ 80 is generally easy with very
few emissions related problems; yet.
As much as we hate it we are used to it. Emissions issues cannot
only cause you to fail your local SMOG requirements but they can
cause poor mileage, hard starting, stumbling and low vacuum among
a host of other issues. For many years Bob and Ted's backyard
Garage would just randomly rip parts off and plug lines in an
effort to "get it to pass." Many of you are paying for
that now.
Common issues are vac lines are not correctly hooked up or plugged
and one or 2 malfunctioning switches or valves that stop a big
part of the system from working; no way you can pass! We can fix
that.
As part of any tune up we visually check all SMOG related components
and ensure that truck is running as well as possible with SMOG
components as they as installed. Many times a full tune up is
all that is needed to get a truck to pass emissions but sometimes
more is required.
We approach emission testing failures with the Factory Service
Manual in hand and start at one end and work our way to the other
checking each component in turn. We usually find the issue within
an hour or so and then we can take your truck to be checked and
give you the passing paperwork.
Unfortunately, some times it take a while longer and costs a bunch
more. Such is the life of the Cruiser owner. We will get you to
pass eventually and we try to keep the cost to a reasonable level.
