| suspension:
Land Cruisers are big, heavy and most are driven as they
should be. This all results in suspension wear. Most shocks are
only good for 40,000 miles and springs for 80,000 miles. After that
they get weak and sloppy.
A new suspension will give a better ride, additional safety and
control, lift and tire clearance.
We can provide multiple different types of suspensions to suit your
needs. These can be anything from a stock set up to an elaborate
spring over conversion. Your driving style and budget will determine
the set up best for you. Please contact
us and we can go over the different options available.

40 Series:
Most trucks that will see mild offloading and tires up to 33?s will
be very happy with the Dakar suspension; the same design as listed
under the 60 series section below. If you want a higher, more
aggressive suspension for serious off roading contact us and we can
custom tailor a system that will meet all your needs. There really is
not a good "off the shelf" solution but we can build you a suspension
that will work for the terrain, the truck and your budget!

Old Man Emu:
The Old Man Emu was for many years the best aftermarket spring offered
for 60 Series Land Cruisers. Old Man Emu (OME) has now introduced a
new spring into the North American market. Basically it is a Malaysian
made OME spring that copies the original OME springs in all respects.
The biggest difference is price. The Dakar line of springs is much
cheaper than the original OME springs without losing any of the ride
quality and flexibility of the originals. OME lowered the price by
moving the manufacturing aspects to Malaysia and using imported steel.
The same plant in Malaysia that now makes the Dakar springs has also
made and continues to make many of the "generic" springs currently
sold in North America. That is not to say the Dakar's are anything but
unique. This is the same quality as the original OME springs for less
money.
We have installed over 50 of these kits and have found them to be
the absolute best aftermarket suspension available; so good in fact
that we no longer sell any other aftermarket suspension. The shackles,
pins and bushings that OME provides are of the highest quality
possible. Sure, you can spend less money but you will get a lot less
product!
OME shocks are available in both light and heavy. Please contact us
and we can help you decide which shock is best for your application.
All Dakar springs will give 2" to 3" lift. It is possible to use other
components to get as much as 4"s of lift from Dakar springs. Drop us a
line and we can help you make the best decision for your truck. The
pricing below is in kit form. If you would like to buy individual
springs contact us for details.

Stock
suspension:
Over the past few months we have had an increasing number of customers
inquiring about a stock replacement suspension for their 60 series.
Until now, we have not really installed many of these because the
aftermarket stock springs are of very poor quality and seem to be
rather expensive for what they are. The aftermarket springs also
do not have a very long lifetime.
We eventually made a bunch of phone calls and
are now offering BRAND NEW Toyota suspension products for
your FJ60 or 62! As with every cruiser decision there are
pros and cons to this set up. The main advantage is your truck was
designed for this suspension. It will ride as if brand new. There
are no modifications required to the vehicle in any way. Your sagging,
bumpy springs will be replaced and your truck will lift up between
1” and 2” depending on the condition of your current
springs. It will lift up a bit but will be at stock ride height
when installed.
The second advantage to the new stock springs
is that they will last a long time, probably longer than your truck!
Even the best aftermarket suspensions have a lifespan of 30K miles
or so. The cheapo aftermarket suspensions often sag within 10k or
so. The new stock suspension will last.
If you plan on heavy off road adventures with
large tires, climbing rocks etc … this is not the suspension
for you. On the other hand, this suspension is ideal for the owner
that enjoys adventures in the woods, camping and general outdoor
activities; using your cruiser for what it was designed for. On
the news these days it is almost impossible to avoid Iraq or Afghanistan.
The cruisers seen all over those countries all ride on stock Toyota
suspensions. The suspension will allow you to run 265/75/15 (stock
tires) or 31/10.5/15, 2 sizes above stock.
There is a downside; this is not cheap. The 60
and 62 suspensions are different. The 62 provides a slightly softer
ride while the 60 has slightly greater load carrying capacity. Either
suspension can be fitted to either vehicle based on your driving
style. The only parts that are not new Toyota are the shackles and
pins. While we can provide shackles and pins from Toyota we prefer
to use a greasable shackle and pin that will make the truck ride
a bit smoother and greatly extend the life of the suspension. If
you prefer Toyota shackles we can exchange them for the aftermarket
replacements at no charge.
We provide the following parts for the FJ 60:
4 springs
24 bushings
1 front sway bar bushing kit both bar to axle and axle to frame
4 shocks
1 steering stabilizer
4 stock height greasable shackles (Non Toyota)
4 greasable frame pins (Non Toyota)
The price for this is $2316.00
We provide the following parts for the FJ 62:
4 springs
24 bushings
1 front sway bar bushing kit both bar to axle and axle to frame
1 rear sway bar bushing kit both bar to axle and axle to frame
4 shocks
1 steering stabilizer
4 stock height greasable shackles (Non Toyota)
4 greasable frame pins (Non Toyota)
The price for this is $2246.00
None of these prices include shipping. These springs are not normally
carried in the North American Toyota inventory. It can take up to
4 weeks to receive the springs. Shipping is only for transport in
North America. Springs ship to North America free by Toyota.
80 Series:
The 80 Series Land Cruiser can benefit greatly from a new suspension
weather it be a stock height replacement or a 2.5” lifted
suspension. The original suspension seems to wear quickly due to
the weight and mass of the truck. We can build a custom suspension
to upwards of 6”s of lift but the majority of our customers
are very happy with the Old Man Emu suspensions. We offer 3 basic
types:
Kit 1: OME stock replacement suspension includes
2 front coils OME 861 and 2 rear coils OME 862, 2 front shocks OME
N73 heavy duty, and 2 OME N74 rear heavy duty shocks and one SD24
OME steering stabilizer. This kit will provide little if any lift
but will improve the stock ride greatly. This is the ideal kit for
those who want to keep a stock look and stock tires. The kit is
also available with OME 70 front shocks and OME 71 rear shock. The
softer shocks will provide a much smoother ride and are designed
for trucks that are not heavily loaded. The cost for this kit
is $657.
Kit 2: OME medium load suspension includes 2 front
coils OME 851 and 2 rear coils OME 860, 2 front shocks OME N73 heavy
duty, and 2 OME N74 rear heavy duty shocks, one SD24 OME steering
stabilizer and one castor correction bushing kit. This kit is designed
for trucks without a front winch bar, swing out tire carrier or
roof rack. You will get 2.5” over stock with this kit. The
cost for kit 2 is $747.
Kit 3: OME heavy load suspension includes 2 front
coils OME 850 and 2 rear coils OME 863, 2 front shocks OME N73 heavy
duty, and 2 OME N74 rear heavy duty shocks, one SD24 OME steering
stabilizer and one castor correction bushing kit. This kit is designed
for trucks with a front winch bar, swing out tire carrier or roof
rack. You will get 2.5” over stock with this kit. The
cost for kit 3 is $747.
Installation:
The bitter truth is that installing a suspension is not a technical
job but it is a long, dirty and, at times, painful job. We average 10
hours of labor per install with some older 40 and 60 series trucks
requiring much more time than that. Currently, we charge $575 for a
full suspension install on all Land Cruisers. We do our best to stay
within this price range and this does include the installation of any
shims/castor bushings required. There is an additional fee for
lengthening the rear sway bars arms on the FJ62 of $85. Longer brake
hoses will generally increase the cost by $90.
Prices subject to change, please call or stop
by for an exact estimate for your vehicle.
