EXTERIOR
Land Cruisers have a tendency to get beaten up a bit. Rust is also
a common issue. Body damage, either from trees, rocks or lesser
vehicles can ruin your investment. We can make your truck look like
new or just extend its life for a while. We will walk you through
all the different options for each part of your job to make sure
your are getting exactly what you want.
Bumpers and ARB Bars:
Stock replacement bumpers are available for all Land Cruisers for
very reasonable prices. A new OEM bumper will make your truck look
much better. Bumper caps, although a bit expensive, are also available.
The 60 and 80 Series can really benefit from an ARB bumper. We
have yet to see any product on the market that provides the same
fit, finish and protection as the ARB bumper. The only issue with
them is that they are expensive and prices can be all over the map.
We charge $770 for any ARB winch bar. $149 shipping and $225 for
installation with the total price installed of $1064. Occasionally, on
80 Series, the front rails are a bit too narrow for an easy
installation and we will need to charge a bit additional.
As stated above, prices can be all over the map on ARB bars. It
is possible to find them new at a discount. A few things to consider:You
need to have the bar shipped to a commercial address. A residential
shipping address will increase costs greatly. Urban Land Cruisers
L.L.C. will accept delivery of customer ordered ARB bars for a fee
of $75. This includes receipt of the bar, unpacking and disposal
of shipping container. The above does not include a shipping damage
inspection upon receipt. If it is later determined that there are
any issues involving damage to the bar it is the customers' responsibility
to arrange return and pick up at Urban Land Cruisers L.L.C. Urban
Land Cruisers L.L.C. will charge an additional $75 to repack the
bar and load it on the truck.
None of us are made of money and we encourage you to find the best
price that you can. We will be happy to install any ARB bar
you purchase for $225. We only sell ARB bars as part of a package
with installation. We will not be able to receive any ARB bar ordered
by a customer unless we are to install it.
For the 40 Series and 55 Series we make custom rail bumpers available
with or without winch mounts. We custom make these for each truck
and can quote you an accurate price after getting your requirements.
In most cases a 4" rail bumper with 2 tow points and a winch
mount will run between $400-$500.
We also love the Metaltech products. We install their front hoop
(http://www.metaltechcage.com/productsframeset.htm)
for the cost of the hoop and shipping plus $175 labor. If you
wish it to be powder coated it will run $280.
Roof racks and sliders:
Currently we are in the final design stages for our new line of
roof racks and sliders. Please check back often or email
us direct with your requirements.
Body work/Paint:
The first thing to consider with body work is how nice do you really
want it to be when it is all over? Some trucks are so beat up or
rusted it might be better to start with a new body or tub. We do
body and tub replacements using OEM parts both new and used, as
well as installing aluminum tubs and used tubs and bodies. We can
help you evaluate the condition and can help with budgeting your
repairs.
We are not a body shop. We will on occasion, repaint doors or fenders
but we also work with a professional body shop and farm out some
work to make sure it is perfect. Bottom line is that we don’t
like body work but we will make sure your truck is repaired for
a fair price. Generally, we handle all the rust removal, welding,
new panel install and dismanteling. The truck then goes to the body
shop with the $10,000 paint booth for a perfect paint job.
Doors and Roofs:
One of our favorite things is to rebuild a part better than new.
We can rebuild your doors, for example and get rid of all the leaks
and rattles. We can even make your old style 40 windows go up and
down! We also install new glass and rubber gaskets on the windshield,
doors, body and gates when required. We provide alignment of doors
and gates to ensure rattle free operation. Many of our customers
have us install a softop in the spring then leave the hard top with
us over the summer for a full rebuild. We install both Bestop and
Kayline softops as well as bikini tops and family tops.
Body parts and Panels:
Our shop has piles of body parts hidden here and there. If we don’t
have a good used replacement panel we can get good prices on OEM
or aftermarket panels. We also have doors, gates, hoods and roofs
available for rebuild. We do not sell used body parts unless it
is part of an ongoing shop job.
Emblems/Lights/Trim:
To improve the appearance of your truck the most bang for the buck
is all new emblems, trim and lights. For most cruisers we suggest
OEM parts. Trail trucks, or our beater trucks, can save some money
on hi quality aftermarket exterior items. None of it is very expensive
and none of it is hard to install. On a full repaint we install
it all free of charge as we need to remove it either way. Normal
installation for those items without a repaint is cheap. We can
provide all of the required OEM or aftm parts required.
INTERIOR
Many Land Cruisers, especially 40 and 55 Series, lack creature comforts.
That is why it is so important to get what you have in as good of
shape as possible. We have done just about anything you can do to
the inside of a Land Cruiser from headliners to gauge restoration.
Give us a call with your specific
needs and we can help you out. Listed below are some of the more
common projects we tackle.
Some of the listed projects make more sense to do in series. Contact
us and we will work from your finished goal backwards to where
you need to start. This makes our life easier and costs you a lot
less money.
Roll Cages: [NOTE: SEE IMAGES IN THE TOP LEFT
MARGIN OF THIS PAGE]
If you drive a 40 Series you must have a roll cage. It will save
your life. We have rolled more than once at ULC and know the value
of a good cage. A cage is only as good as what it is attached to.
The stock cage is adequate for most daily driver trucks. It is
also under the stock bar that much of the 40 Series rust forms.
We can pull your stock bar, clean and repaint it and re-install
it for $245. All of the listed work but with the bar powder-coated
is $375. While we are in there we will also inspect the
mounting areas for rust and clean them up as required. Extensive
welding or metal replacement will drive this cost up.
An excellent upgrade to your stock bar is our custom frame tie-ins.
These tie your main hoop through the wheel wells into the frame
on either side. The tie-ins are $145 installed and painted or
$210 installed and powder-coated.
If you plan on wheeling your truck you should consider a full cage.
Visit http://www.metaltechcage.com/homesframeset.htm
and see what they have. Metaltech offers superior products at a
great price. It is impossible to recreate their products for less
than the cost of purchasing them from directly from Metaltech.
The ultimate cage from Metaltech is the full cage (http://www.metaltechcage.com/fullcage.htm).
We charge the cost of the cage and shipping plus $800 installed
and painted. Installed and powder coated is $1250.
ULC installs the full-range of Metaltech products. We can buy it
or you can buy it and have it shipped to us. Either way your price
is the same. Please contact us for specific pricing on other Metaltech
product installs.
We can adapt a Metaltech cage to your specific requirements or
build exactly what you want from scratch. We have a full fabrication
shop with all the required tools on hand.
Seats:
Stock FJ 40 seats are great. The only issue with them is that most
are over 25 years old. The foam is worn and the covers are trashed.
A rebuilt stock 40 seat is, in our opinion, the best option for
your truck. The early stock bench and split bench seats in 40 Series
leave a bit to be desired. We can replace them with later stock
seats or aftermarket seats that still allow you to access the cool
storage bin on the early 40s. Of course we can rebuild them also!
The stock jumpseats can also be rebuilt and are surprisingly comfortable
when new. We have also installed many aftermarket seats with varying
success.
55 Series bench seats are OK but we generally replace them with
new or used aftermarket seats. If you wish to retain the stock bench
seat we can rebuild them as well.
60 Series seats are good when they are new but seem to degrade
rather quickly. We have had success with 2 different plans.
1. We re foam and re cover your existing seat using a marine vinyl
cover.
2. We replace the seat generally using a leather or vinyl RECARO
style seat either new or used.
80 and 100 Series seats seem to be holding up very well. Early 80
Series cloth seats can be replaced with later 80 Series leather.
If you already have leather we will be happy to sell you a bottle
of leather conditioner, a rag and a 5 lb. tub of elbow grease.
A seat rebuild consists of the following:
- 100% disassembled
- Cleaned, de rusted, painted and springs reinforced
- New bottom foam, not a foam cover
- New or improved top foam. (Many times the top foam is fine)
- New vinyl covers. These are not slip on covers but professional
quality cut/sewn covers attached with hog rings.
We can rebuild your seats or use our core seats then switch yours
out.
Front seat rebuilds generally run between $400 and $600 depending
on your specifications. We price out backseat and jumpseat
rebuilds on a truck by truck basis.
Big and tall: Not all of us are 5’ 6” and weigh 150
lbs! For the big and tall group we can move the seats a bit further
back to allow more leg/gut room. There is an additional charge for
this modification.
Heat and noise:
Prior to the advent of the 80 and 100 Series most all cruisers suffered
from this. We have literally seen marks near the gas pedal on 40
Series that are melted shoe rubber! The owner of Urban Land Cruisers
L.L.C. suffered burns on his right leg from the heat coming off
of the shifter in his FJ 62 while traveling cross country this summer.
While the interior will never be like a BMW we can make it quieter,
cooler and at the same time make it almost rust proof.
Herculiner: [NOTE: SEE IMAGES IN THE TOP LEFT
MARGIN OF THIS PAGE]
We start this process by lining the interior sheet metal with Herculiner
(http://www.herculiner.com/ )
Depending on the Series you have we offer different options as
to how it is applied. 40 Series are generally applied throughout
the entire tub or it can be applied to just the floorboards. 55
and 60 Series are generally just lined on the floor and up onto
the inside of the firewall.
The trick to any lining product is the prep. We go to great lengths
to ensure you liner becomes a permanent part of your truck.
Here is how we do it:
- Remove the entire interior.
- Vacuum it out
- Hot soap and water and a mild scrub pad to remove dirt and
oil
- Wire brush and remove any loose paint or dirt
- Evaluate the condition of the floorboards and replace metal
as needed.
- Vacuum it out
- Install sacrifical bolts to keep threaded holes clean
- Clean the inside with a professional degreasing product
- Prime and topcoat any bare metal or new metal
- Tape off the interior
- Scuff the paint
- Final degrease
- Roll and paint on the liner
- Reinstall the interior.
The base price for this service is $475. The price includes
all of the above but additional welding or panel replacement can
drive that price up a bit.
A few comments about Herculiner: It is both a roll on and a spray
on as are many other coatings. We generally get a 1/8” coat
to as much as a 1⁄4” coat. Obviously, the thicker the
coat the better it will absorb heat and deaden sound. The problem
we have seen many times is that the other available spray
in liners do not adhere correctly to the metal as the surface is
not correctly prepped. The other main issue is that most spray in
places just pull the seats and go to town! You end up with all the
seat mounts, bolts, tranny cover plates etc… covered and hidden
by the spray in liner. We use Herculiner because we can control
the application and guarantee the quality of it. The majority of
the work involved is preparation. If you prefer a different spray-in
liner we can do all of the above prep work for $375 then have the
truck towed to the spray in shop then returned to our shop where
we will reassemble the interior. Plan on an additional $400-$600
for this service. We have some trucks that have had Herculiner in
them for almost 10 years. If we did not think it was a good product
we would not sell it!
Undercoating:
Anytime we install a new panel or weld in a patch we clean, prep,
prime and top coat the patch and surrounding area on the underside
then apply a spray on undercoating to protect the area. This is
included in the quoted price of the repair. Quite often we are asked
to undercoat the entire body for both rust protection and sound
absorption. This involves extensive cleaning and degreasing and
is a dirty messy job. We love it!
We use a 3M spray on product that will seal the underside for
many years to come. We estimate this service on a truck by truck
basis but it generally runs around $400.
Insulation:
Once the interior is protected we install a heat/sound absorbing
pad throughout the truck. There are many different types available
on the market. We have had great results with Dynomat but it is
expensive. Keep in mind that all of the absorbation pads will require
a carpet or vinyl cover. Look around on the net and we can intall
just about anything you like or we can provide Dynomat or a slighter
cheaper alternative. 40 Series insulation $75-$150, 55 and 60
Series insulation $140-$300 installed.
Carpet:
New carpet not only makes your truck look and smell better it makes
an amazing difference in noise levels. We use very high quality
moulded carpets for all Land Cruisers. Prices on carpet run
between $300-$700 installed.
Softop trucks or trail trucks generally stick with vinyl pads for
easy clean up. The OEM style vinyl sheet is still available and
we custom make rubber pads for 60 through 100 Series trucks.
Air Conditioning:
When David was 18 AC was no big deal. Now that David is 39 AC is
required! Toyota air conditioning systems are great. Usually the
issues we find are slow leaks, bad O rings or bad filter/dryers. Most
AC issues can be fixed for under $500 and we offer a complete
diagnostic service of the system. We want you to be able to hang meat
in your truck!
Most AC service includes replacing all O rings, installing a new
filter/dryer then vacuuming the system and recharging it with new
R-12. We try not to convert the systems to the 134 A as it does not
cool as well. We also can replace compressors and evaporators as
required.
The 80 series has a few items of weirdness in the system. We know them
well! If your truck stinks like old socks when the AC is on we can fix
that!
Older trucks can have AC retrofitted. There is a very nice aftermarket
system available that will cool your truck right down. An AC retrofit
usually runs around $1800.
Prices subject to change, please call or stop
by for an exact estimate for your vehicle.
